Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 309 AM EDT Fri Mar 15 2024 Valid 00Z Sat Mar 16 2024 - 00Z Sat Mar 23 2024 Weak high pressure at the surface is expected to be in place just north of Hawaii through Friday and into the upcoming weekend. Meanwhile, the cold front will be lingering near and just southeast of the Big Island through Friday before gradually dissipating. A col develops in the surface high by early next week with a frontal boundary passing well north of the Islands according to the latest ensemble means. The surface high will likely build back in north of the state going into the middle to end of next week. There will likely be enhanced showers for the Big Island through late Saturday owing to the vicinity of the frontal boundary, and less coverage of showers farther northwest. The ECMWF is generally higher with QPF compared to the GFS. Scattered showers are likely to persist beyond this time, but abating in intensity as a drier overall environment advects into the region. Light to moderate trade wind flow from the northeast is expected through early next week, with some veering to the east by the middle of the week. Hamrick
