Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 359 AM EDT Sat Aug 10 2024 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 11 2024 - 00Z Sun Aug 18 2024 Trade winds should gradually strengthen back to breezy levels this weekend as a surface high drifts toward Hawaii (though staying well north). The high is forecast to meander around 40N and maintain the typical pressure gradient for breezy easterly trades through much of next week, with some model signal to strengthen even further by late week. Through the period, some showers are possible favoring typical windward/mauka areas but occasionally spilling into leeward areas. Coverage and amounts of rain will vary from day to day. A slight uptick in showers is possible around Sunday with some weak moisture coming through. By around Wednesday-Thursday, troughing in the mid-upper levels could support more surges of moisture. The GFS indicates above normal precipitable water values across the state by Wednesday while the ECMWF does not, but both the GFS and ECMWF show a moisture plume briefly moving across Thursday-Friday. Widespread heavy rain is not expected, just a relatively wet trade wind pattern. Tate
