Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 213 AM EST Sat Jan 04 2025 Valid 00Z Sun Jan 05 2025 - 00Z Sun Jan 12 2025 Models and ensembles reasonably agree in showing a generally fair weather pattern for Hawaii through the weekend with disrupted trades and ridging aloft. Winds are forecast to gradually in response to a stalling front to the northwest of the state. Overall, these southerly mean winds should be weak to allow land/sea breezes. Southerly wind speeds may increase by Monday in the western islands and Tuesday for most areas, ahead of another cold front. This front has a better chance to reach the western islands around midweek, supported by amplified upper trough approach and slow passage to the north and increasingly over the state with time. These features could increase and enhance rain chances as moisture pools along the slow to progress front. Post-frontal winds will increase later next week as high pressure re-bridges to the north of the islands in an expected transition to a more windward terrain focusing rainfall pattern to tap a lingering pooled moisture plume.
