Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 259 AM EST Sat Jan 25 2025 Valid 00Z Sun Jan 26 2025 - 00Z Sun Feb 2 2025 The Hawaii domain will be in a general col within the subtropical ridge axis this weekend, with the surface low steadily lifting north away from the state. However, an amplifying upper trough north of the state early next week will result in an inverted surface trough and then a surface low near 35N/150W by Tuesday morning, with a trailing stationary front extending across the Big Island. With that low lifting out, a surface high then passes north of the state through the middle of the week. The ECENS is depicted a new surface low near the northwestern Islands by that time, whereas the GEFS is weaker and farther to the west. Periods of showers are likely from Honolulu to the Big Islands through Wednesday, both from trade wind flow and the presence of the stationary boundary. Depending on the evolution of the next low late week, a more concentrated area of rainfall may develop over the northwestern Islands to close out the week. Winds will generally be out of the east through Tuesday, with a shift to northerly or northeast flow north of the frontal boundary going into Wednesday. Hamrick
