Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 217 AM EST Thu Jan 30 2025 Valid 00Z Fri Jan 31 2025 - 00Z Fri Feb 7 2025 The next low pressure system crosses north of Hawaii Thursday night around 30 degrees north, with the trailing cold front crossing the state late Friday. The ECENS and GEFS means have come into good agreement on the track and intensity of the low. With enhanced southwesterly low level ahead of the front, periods of heavy rainfall are likely for the southern facing terrain, and this will include areas that don't often get significant rainfall from the normal trade wind pattern. It's possible that some locations could get 2-4 inches of rain through Friday evening, and this may lead to some flooding. With the surface low and front lifting out of the region Saturday, a quieter pattern returns for the weekend. The subtropical high slowly builds back in to the northwest of the state through early next week, and the trade wind flow will veer from southwesterly to northwesterly through Sunday, and then more northeasterly by early next week. Precipitation will return to the normal trade wind induced showers. Hamrick
