Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 407 PM EDT Fri Apr 19 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Apr 20 2013 - 00Z Mon Apr 22 2013 ...A strong cold front pushing towards the Atlantic will threaten the Eastern U.S. with severe weather... A strong cold front will continue to slowly push through the Eastern U.S. Friday night into Saturday. An abundance of Gulf moisture funneling northward ahead of the boundary will fuel an organized line of convection as the front marches eastward. Some of these storms are expected to contain heavy downpours...damaging winds...large hail...or even tornadoes (Please refer to the Storm Prediction Center for more information on severe weather). The potent front should exit out into the Atlantic early Saturday...and much cooler...drier...air will fill in behind it. However...the tail end of the boundary will struggle to clear Florida...keeping showers and thunderstorms in the forecast across the sunshine state through the weekend. A weak disturbance progressing southeastward through the Western U.S. will trigger widespread shower activity over the Pacific Northwest and along the Northern to Central Rockies this weekend. Although precipitation totals will be mostly light to moderate...temperatures will be low enough to support accumulating snows over the higher elevations. A cold front nosing southward out of Canada will begin to drop through the Northern Plains late this weekend. This system will not be much of a precipitation maker...but it will bring another surge of cooler air into the North Central U.S..
