Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 430 AM EDT Tue Apr 23 2013 Valid 12Z Tue Apr 23 2013 - 12Z Thu Apr 25 2013 ...Wintry Weather Continues to March Eastward Across the Great Plains... A powerful cold front plunging through the nation's mid-section will continue to bring abrupt temperature falls and a mixed bag of precipitation to portions of the central Plains and Great Lakes region. Meanwhile, a low pressure system off the Atlantic coast will lash portions of eastern New England with heavy rains and gusty winds. The sharp Plains cold front will lose its edge as it oozes across the lower Mississippi and Tennessee River valleys and the central and southern Appalachians--accompanied by an ever-decreasing band of showers and thunderstorms. New disturbances are expected to graze the northern tier of states Wednesday into Thursday, though the sensible weather impacts of these weather systems should pale in comparison to the system currently affecting the Plains. Finally, an upper low is expected to approach Southern California Wednesday night into Thursday--sparking perhaps a few showers, mainly over the higher terrain.
