Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 416 AM EDT Wed Apr 24 2013 Valid 12Z Wed Apr 24 2013 - 12Z Fri Apr 26 2013 ...Showers and Thunderstorms to Rumble Across the East... The storm system responsible for all the snow, ice, and cold over the western Great Plains will warm as it crosses the Mississippi River valley today--with a long stripe of showers and thunderstorms expected to accompany its attendant cold front. The front will bottom out along the Gulf Coast, keeping the region from southern Texas to southern Alabama on the showery side into early Friday. In the wake of the big storm, the nation's midsection will dry out considerably, along with a wholesale moderation in temperatures. A weak disturbance passing along the Canadian border should produce some light rain and snow, with snow accumulations vastly limited as compared to the recent event. A weak upper low entering the far Southwest should perturb the atmosphere enough to produce at least widely scattered showers across that region today into Thursday. By Thursday night, the system will have sheared across the southern Rockies and onto the Plains--wringing more scattered showers along its path.
