Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 457 PM EDT Fri Apr 26 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Apr 27 2013 - 00Z Mon Apr 29 2013 ***Heavy rain and thunderstorms for parts of the South*** ***Patchy areas of rain and high mountain snow out West*** The main weather story over the next few days will be a slow moving frontal boundary from Texas to the Southern Appalachians. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will be advected northward on the backside of a surface high pressure ridge. This will result in an overrunning event near the boundary, producing an area of showers and thunderstorms extending from Texas eastward into the Deep South and interior parts of the Southeast. Rainfall amounts on the order of 1 to 3 inches is possible where heavy thunderstorm activity persists the longest. Elsewhere, a front will approach the Pacific Northwest and move inland to the Northern Rockies by Saturday evening. Patchy areas of light rain and high elevation snow is likely to develop with the front over this region on Saturday. Over the Desert Southwest, hot and dry weather can be expected this weekend, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and even low 100s.
