Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 500 PM EDT Mon Apr 29 2013 Valid 00Z Tue Apr 30 2013 - 00Z Thu May 02 2013 ...A Strong Cold Front Plunging Through the Nation Will Threaten the Midwest with Severe Weather and Bring Accumulating Snows to the Central Rockies/High Plains ... A strong cold front plunging southeastward out of the Northwestern U.S. will be the main weather maker across the country during the short range period. The front will trigger some showers and thunderstorms while dropping through the Northern Plains Monday night. On Tuesday...heavier and more organized areas of precipitation should begin to develop with this system as the boundary slows down over the Midwest/Central Plains and taps into increasing amounts of Gulf moisture. SPC has highlighted a severe weather threat...please refer to www.spc.ncep.noaa.gov for the latest information. Behind the front...plummeting temperatures will make snow showers a possibility along the Northern/Central Rockies and even over the Central High Plains. Accumulations approaching a foot will be possible over the Central Rockies/High Plains...where strong winds blowing against the front range will lead to an organized area of moderate to heavy snows. Elsewhere across the nation...a weak piece of southern stream energy should help produce some scattered showers and thunderstorms as it slowly crosses the Gulf Coast states the next few days. Farther north...another weak piece of energy aloft will be stubborn to exit the Eastern Seaboard...keeping weather unsettled across Florida and up into the Mid-Atlantic States. However...the heaviest precipitation should remain offshore. Gerhardt Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
