Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 459 AM EDT Thu May 09 2013 Valid 12Z Thu May 09 2013 - 12Z Sat May 11 2013 ...Severe weather anticipated for the southern Plains and Midwest... ...Accumulating snows expected for the Colorado Rockies... ...Wet weather for the Northeast... A frontal boundary currently moving through the southern and central Plains will bring showers and thunderstorms in the southern Plains throughout Thursday. An influx of Gulf moisture combined with enough instability will create a good environment for showers and thunderstorms with the possibility of some storms being severe. See the Storm Prediction Center for more detailed and latest information. The surface front causing the convection in the southern Plains will gradually move eastward and by Friday most of the precipitation shield will consequently shift to the Upper Midwest and the Middle Mississippi River Valley. Portions of the Deep South, Tennessee and Ohio Valley should expect a wet start to the weekend. Most of the convection will arrive in the aforementioned regions Saturday and likely linger during Sunday. The slow moving upper level low in the Four Corners region will continue its sluggish nature and by Friday begin to exit the western half of the U.S. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to carry on across the western states. High elevation snow in the Colorado Rockies can also be expected. By Friday, most of the precipitation will subside. The closed low that has given the Middle Atlantic, Southeast, and Ohio Valley a bountiful amount of rainfall will weaken as it moves northward through the Northeast. Showers in the Northeast region will continue Thursday and end by Friday. Fanning Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
