Warm and humid conditions in the East will give way to scattered showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Thursday night. Some storms may become severe over portions of the northern Mid-Atlantic states. The weather turns cooler behind the front...with high temperatures on Friday falling back 15-25 degrees from highs on Thursday. A deep trough of low pressure in the Northwest will continue to produce well below normal temperatures...showers and a few thunderstorms in the Rockies. Unusually low snow levels and snowfall accumulations have already been observed over interior sections of Washington and along the Continental Divide. The potential for brief periods of snow and snow showers remains a possibility through Friday night. For the Great Lakes and Midwest...cold high pressure will prevail in the the early part of the holiday weekend. Scattered light frosts are possible across the Upper Midwest and near the lakes...and high temperatures will likely be a good 10-15 degrees below normal for late May.
