Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 331 AM EDT Thu May 30 2013 Valid 12Z Thu May 30 2013 - 12Z Sat Jun 01 2013 ...Slight risk of severe thunderstorms for portions of the Central/Southern Plains and the Middle Mississippi Valley... ...Heavy rain possible over portions of Middle Mississippi Valley, Northern High Plains, and the southern tip of Florida... A storm over the Plains will pull moisture out of the Gulf of Mexico northward over the Mississippi Valley and into the Great Lakes. The front associated with the system will move slowly from the Plains to the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley by Friday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop ahead of the boundary over the Mississippi Valley expanding into parts of the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and the Great Lakes Thursday afternoon into Friday evening. A small area of showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Northeast Thursday and Friday. On the northwest side of the storm, light to moderate rain will develop over parts of the Northern High Plains waning to light rain by Friday evening. Meanwhile, easterly flow around high pressure over the western Atlantic will stream moisture rich air over the southern tip of Florida that will aid in developing showers and thunderstorms over the southern part of Florida through Friday evening. Elsewhere, onshore flow will keep light rain over parts of the Washington State coast into the higher elevations to the east through Friday morning.
