Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 404 PM EDT Thu May 30 2013 Valid 00Z Fri May 31 2013 - 00Z Sun Jun 02 2013 ...Moderate risk of severe weather today and tomorrow across portions of the southern plains... ...Heavy rain possible over portions of the Northern High Plains, southern tip of Florida, as well as the southern plains to the Great Lakes... A hot and very humid airmass in place ahead of a slow moving frontal boundary will set the stage for several rounds of convection from the southern plains and into the Midwest through Saturday. A moderate risk of severe weather has been issued for portions of the southern plains today and tomorrow. A slight risk for severe weather extends northward into the Upper Midwest today and Great Lakes tomorrow. Flash flooding will be a concern over the next few days as some areas will see several rounds of heavy convective precipitation. An upper level low will move slowly across the northern plains over the next two days. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across much of the northern plains. While rainfall rates will not be high, the long duration of the rainfall will result in widespread rainfall totals in excess of an inch. Southeasterly onshore flow across southern Florida will spark scattered showers and thunderstorms into the weekend.
