Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 317 AM EDT Sun Jun 2 2013 Valid 12Z Sun Jun 2 2013 - 12Z Tue Jun 4 2013 ***Stormy weather ahead of cold front for the East Coast *** ***Fresh surge of cooler and drier weather for the Eastern U.S.*** ***Another frontal system for the Rockies*** A slow moving cold front will continue moving eastward across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys through Sunday, and this front is forecast to reach the East Coast by Monday night. Ahead of this front, there will be a rich supply of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, and the combination of instability and convergence will lead to the development of numerous showers and thunderstorms. These will extend from the Deep South northeastward to New England, and some of the rainfall is expected to be heavy at times, including strong to severe storms. A quality airmass with cooler and drier weather will follow behind the cold front, with highs near or slightly below normal for early June and much lower humidity. Elsewhere, a persistent southeasterly flow of tropical moisture will bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to the Florida Peninsula throughout the weekend and into Monday with locally heavy rains likely. For the Pacific Northwest, another upper low and surface cold front will arrive by Sunday, with cooler weather and some diurnally-driven showers. This front is expected to traverse the Inter-Mountain West and bring more scattered showers and a few storms for the northern Rockies. And for the Desert Southwest, very hot and dry conditions are forecast with highs well above 100 degrees for the lower elevations. D.
