Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 405 AM EDT Mon Jun 3 2013 Valid 12Z Mon Jun 3 2013 - 12Z Wed Jun 5 2013 ***Stormy and wet weather for the Southeast and Florida*** ***Fresh surge of cooler and drier weather for the Eastern U.S.*** ***Another frontal system for the Rockies*** The cold front that has been moving slowly eastward recently is expected to clear the Mid-Atlantic and New England coasts by Monday night. However, the southern portion of the front is expected to slow down and stall over the southern Deep South states by Tuesday. South of the frontal boundary, numerous showers and storms are expected. A persistent southeasterly flow of tropical moisture will bring periods of rain and embedded thunderstorms to the Florida Peninsula for the beginning of the week. Farther to the north, a quality airmass with cooler and drier weather will follow behind the cold front, with highs near or slightly below normal for early June and much lower humidity. Elsewhere, another front is expected to traverse the Inter-Mountain West and bring more scattered showers and a few storms for the northern Rockies. Since moisture is expected to be rather limited with this system, most rainfall amounts should be light. When this system emerges over the Plains, more scattered showers and storms are likely from the Central Plains to the Upper Midwest. And for the Desert Southwest, very hot and dry conditions are forecast with highs well above 100 degrees for the lower elevations. D.
