Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 AM EDT Tue Jun 4 2013 Valid 12Z Tue Jun 4 2013 - 12Z Thu Jun 6 2013 ***High quality airmass over the Eastern United States*** ***Unsettled weather for Florida through Wednesday*** ***More showers and thunderstorms for the Central U.S.*** After several days of early season heat and humidity for the Eastern U.S., a cold front is bringing a delightful and refreshing change to the weather for the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast U.S. A ridge of Canadian high pressure will control the weather pattern through Wednesday, bringing sunny to partly cloudy skies, cooler temperatures, and much lower humidity. Overnight lows in the 40s are possible in many inland areas of the Northeast, and 50s closer to the coast. Farther to the south, the front should slow down considerably in its progression and eventually stall over the Deep South states. This means that the high humidity and mostly cloudy skies will likely continue through the middle of the week, with highs in the 80s and dewpoints in the 60s to lower 70s. The area with the greatest rainfall will likely be the Florida Peninsula where copious amounts of moisture surging northward out of the Tropics will lead to numerous showers and storms. A frontal system emerging over the Plains from the Rockies will provide the forcing necessary for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop from Texas northward to the Upper Midwest and Dakotas. Increasing amounts of moisture and instability advecting northward from the Gulf of Mexico may result in the development of organized thunderstorm complexes, and some of these storms may become severe at times.
