Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 321 AM EDT Thu Jun 6 2013 Valid 12Z Thu Jun 6 2013 - 12Z Sat Jun 8 2013 ***Tropical Storm Andrea will affect the Southeast U.S.*** ***Moderate to heavy rainfall for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast*** ***Relatively quiet weather pattern west of Mississippi River*** The main thing making weather headlines today will be Tropical Storm Andrea. Having developed into a named storm yesterday, it is forecast to make landfall along the Florida Gulf coast and should move steadily northeastward along the East Coast through the end of the work week. The main effects from this system will be the bands of heavy rainfall that are expected on the eastern side of the storm. Gusty winds near the coast along its track will likely lead to rough surf and minor tidal departures from normal. The Nation Hurricane Center has additional information regarding the specific forecast of Tropical Storm Andrea. In addition to the tropical system, a weakening frontal boundary will be responsible for another area of light to moderate rain and embedded thunderstorms. These will be concentrated along the Appalachians and into Upstate New York through Friday morning. This front will also help Andrea and its remnants to move quickly northeastward. Elsewhere, a weakening front over the Northern Rockies should slowly wash out by Thursday evening. Another cold front will begin to move into the Pacific Northwest by Friday morning, and this will likely produce light rain over parts of this region. Over the Southern Plains, there may be a few rounds of thunderstorm activity for Thursday and Friday, with coverage being isolated to scattered. Very hot conditions are forecast for the Desert Southwest, with highs in the 100 to 110 degree range. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
