Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 456 AM EDT Fri Jun 07 2013 Valid 12Z Fri Jun 07 2013 - 12Z Sun Jun 09 2013 ...Tropical Storm Andrea will bring soaking and potentially flooding rains to much of the Eastern Seaboard on Friday... ...Severe thunderstorms will be possible from the Southern High Plains into portions of the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley on Saturday... ...Excessive heat warnings remain in effect for portions of the Desert Southwest... Tropical Storm Andrea will bring another day of steady and soaking rains to much of the Eastern Seaboard on Friday. The storm should begin to accelerate while tracking up the Mid-Atlantic coast...but even with the faster pace...flooding and flash flooding will remain a concern from North Carolina into southern New England. Also...embedded thunderstorms within the heavy rains could be capable of producing severe weather...especially along the Virginia and North Carolina coasts. Moderate to heavy rains will still be possible over portions of New England on Saturday morning...but any significant precipitation associated with Andrea should be well offshore by Sunday. Please refer to the National Hurricane Center/Storm Prediction Center for the latest information on Tropical Storm Andrea/severe weather threat. A weak disturbance in Andrea's wake will help trigger showers and thunderstorms as it tracks from the Lower Mississippi Valley to the southern Appalachians Friday and Saturday. Given an abundant supply of Gulf moisture...some of these developing storms could contain heavy downpours. Meanwhile...an upper trough amplifying over the Central U.S. will make for active weather across much of the Plains and Midwest this weekend. Increasing amounts of moisture getting pulled northward from the Gulf should help fuel showers and thunderstorms ahead of the associated surface front dropping southeastward out of the northwestern corner of the Nation. Some of these developing storms may become severe and the Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a slight risk area for Saturday that extends from the Southern High Plains into portions of the Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley. Out west...excessive heat warnings remain in effect over portions of the Desert Southwest. Daytime temperatures will soar well into triple digits on Friday and Saturday...but then conditions should begin to cool by the end of the weekend.
