Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 457 AM EDT Sat Jun 08 2013 Valid 12Z Sat Jun 08 2013 - 12Z Mon Jun 10 2013 ...The threat for flash flooding from post-tropical cyclone Andrea will quickly diminish on Saturday... ...Severe thunderstorms will be possible from the Southern High Plains/Southern Rockies and the Southern Mid-Atlantic... Heavy rains and the threat for flash flooding from what is now post-tropical cyclone Andrea will quickly diminish over the Northeast on Saturday as the storm races northeastward along the New England coast and then out into the Atlantic. While conditions clear out in the Northeast...a weak disturbance in Andrea's wake will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms over portions of the Mid-Atlantic region on Saturday. Also...showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast across Florida...where plenty of moisture across the sunshine state could lead to some periods of moderate to heavy rains. Active weather is expected across the Central U.S. this weekend as an upper trough amplifies over the Great Plains and closes off over the Midwest. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue to break out ahead of the associated surface boundary...which will cross the Northern/Central Plains on Saturday and then head into the Middle/Upper Mississippi Valley on Sunday. Abundance amounts of moisture streaming northward out of the Gulf of Mexico should help fuel organized...and potentially severe...thunderstorms.
