Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 418 PM EDT Tue Jun 18 2013 Valid 00Z Wed Jun 19 2013 - 00Z Fri Jun 21 2013 ...Unsettled weather across the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies through Thursday... ...Showers and thunderstorms across the Gulf coast and up the East Coast... A strong upper low pressure system will bring the threat for rain and thunderstorms across the Pacific Northwest and into the northern Rockies throughout much of the forecast period. As the associated surface cold front pushes slowly eastward across the Rockies on Wednesday, rain could be heavy at times and a few of the thunderstorms could be severe. By Wednesday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will begin popping up across the central and northern plains and eventually the Upper Midwest on Thursday as the surface system strengthens over the mountains. Another upper trough out east will drag a surface cold front off the Mid-Atlantic coast on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday evening and into Wednesday, showers and thunderstorms, some heavy at times especially along and ahead of the boundary, will be possible from the Gulf coast states up to southern New England. Behind the front, a cooler and dryer air mass will fill in and bring rather pleasant weather to the Northeast and temperatures below normal for this time of the year. The southern portion of the front off shore is expected to linger across the southeastern states which should keep the wet unsettled weather in place throughout Thursday as well.
