Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 406 PM EDT Thu Jun 20 2013 Valid 00Z Fri Jun 21 2013 - 00Z Sun Jun 23 2013 ...Deep upper level low will bring unsettling conditions across the Northern Plains and the Upper Midwest... ...A stationary front draped across the Southwest and southern Atlantic States will continue to bring showers and thunderstorms... The deep upper level low will continue its sluggish journey across the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains. A plethora of moisture is currently in place over the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest; as disturbances rotate around the upper low this in junction with enough instability will fuel showers and thunderstorms over the course of the short term period. The activity currently in the Northern Plains will slowly taper off overnight Thursday and into Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, most of the convection will be centered over the Upper Great Lakes. However, expect scattered precipitation throughout these regions through Saturday morning. A stationary boundary situated over the northeastern Gulf Coast and southern Atlantic states has provided focus for showers and thunderstorms over the last few days. This activity will persevere with its diurnal trend, with most of the convection sustained by daytime heating, through Saturday morning. The stationary front finally begins to slowly dissipate by Friday evening. By Friday night, the boundary settles alongside to the Carolina coast. Thus, the precipitation affecting the Louisiana-Mississippi-Alabama coastline will recede whereas Florida through North Carolina should expect persistence of convective activity through Saturday. As a side note, at 0504Z on June 21 the sun will pass directly over the Tropic of Cancer marking today as the official day of Summer Solstice. As such, after Thursday the days will slowly lose hours of sunlight. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts! Fanning Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
