Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 357 PM EDT Fri Jun 21 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Jun 22 2013 - 00Z Mon Jun 24 2013 ...Heavy rain and severe weather possible across the northern Plains and the Upper Midwest... ...Showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast for the Southeast... A quasi-stationary surface front should remain draped from the Upper Midwest into the central Rockies throughout the forecast period. This boundary and the broad upper trough is expected to make for a rather wet weekend from the northern Rockies into the Upper Midwest. Weak pieces of upper level energy moving through could bring some heavier rain totals and the risk for flash flooding for parts of the Dakotas and Minnesota. In addition, the Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a slight risk for severe weather across much of the northern Plains and Upper Midwest on both Saturday and Sunday. The pesky front stationed along the Southeast coastline will continue to bring rain and thunderstorms to areas across the Southeast and into the Gulf Coast. Much of the activity should remain scattered in nature while most of the heavier stuff remains offshore except for extreme coastal areas of the Carolinas and Georgia. By Saturday, the front should finally begin to weaken, however the precipitation is expected to linger through the remainder of the weekend. Elsewhere, a weak wave moving into the Pacific Northwest will bring a front onshore with the chance for precipitation increasing throughout the day on Sunday. The eastern states, on the other hand, remain under the upper ridge which will lead to sunny skies, pleasant temperatures, and an overall beautiful weekend.
