Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 227 AM EDT Sun Jun 23 2013 Valid 12Z Sun Jun 23 2013 - 12Z Tue Jun 25 2013 ***Stormy weather for the North Central States and Midwest*** ***Scattered convection in the Southeast*** ***Wet pattern for the West Coast*** Showers and thunderstorms will focus along a slow-moving cold front migrating across the northern High Plains...the mid-Missouri Valley and the upper Mississippi Valley during the next 36 to 48 hours. Some of the stronger storms could produce severe weather and very heavy rainfall. By Tuesday morning...the front should be east of the Great Lakes and weakening as it migrates into western New England. Please refer to the Storm Prediction Center for the severe weather details across the mid-Missouri Valley today and tonight. And across the Platte River Valley and the upper Mississippi Valley on Monday. Across the Southeast, Florida and the Mid-Atlantic states, a weak upper-level low will be the focus for showers and thunderstorms through Monday. The low will slowly drift northeast through the Piedmont and eventually head out to sea. Deep southerly flow near this feature will allow for the development of numerous showers and thunderstorms from the central Gulf Coast to the Mid-Atlantic region, with the greatest concentration of rainfall near the Southeast coast. In the West, a deep trough and a series of Pacific cold fronts will bring wet weather to northern California...the Pacific Northwest and portions of the northern Rockies. The highest rainfall amounts should along the windward slopes of the Siskiyous...northern Sierra and Oregon Cascades. Vojtesak Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
