Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 417 PM EDT Sun Jun 23 2013 Valid 00Z Mon Jun 24 2013 - 00Z Wed Jun 26 2013 ***Periods of stormy weather over the Plains and Midwest*** ***Scattered showers and storms for the Eastern U.S.*** ***Late season rainfall event for the West Coast*** Showers and thunderstorms will focus along a meandering frontal boundary across the northern and central High Plains, and extending into the Midwest states during the next couple of days. Some of the stronger storms could produce severe weather at times and locally very heavy rainfall. By Tuesday morning, the front should be east of the Great Lakes and weakening as it migrates into western New England. Across the Southeast, Florida and the East Coast states, southerly flow around the Bermuda High over the western Atlantic will bring abundant moisture northward. This, in addition to some weak upper level energy, should allow for the development of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms from the central Gulf Coast to the Mid-Atlantic region. Hotter temperatures are likely by the middle of the week, with many locations reaching the low 90s for highs. Out West, an anomalous trough along with a pair of cold fronts moving in from the Pacific Ocean will establish a weather pattern conducive for abnormally high rainfall for late June over the northern half of California and extending northward into the Pacific Northwest. The highest rainfall amounts should be focused on the westward facing mountain slopes where the forcing should be the greatest.
