Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 307 AM EDT Sun Jul 07 2013 Valid 12Z Sun Jul 07 2013 - 12Z Tue Jul 09 2013 ...Rain continues across Tennessee Valley but coverage may shrink as it moves northeastward over next couple days... ...While heat remains over Desert Southwest, cooler air will be moving from the Pacific Northwest to the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains by early in the week... The stubborn area of showers and thunderstorms continues to plague the Tennessee Valley overnight although the area of heavy rains appears to have shrunk over the past several nights. The upper low responsible for the rainfall will continue to lift northeastward toward the Northeast US by Monday before exiting the East Coast by Tuesday. This system will continue to be accompanied by a rather diffuse area of showers and thundershowers, with the shower activity picking up in the daytime heating, some of which will be associated with heavy rainfall capable of local flooding especially in areas already saturated with recent rainfall. The heat over the Southwest will begin to gradually shift toward the Southern to Central Plains with triple digit temperatures likely during the start of the week. The area across north Texas into Oklahoma and southern Kansas is expected to remain dry through the forecast period. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop especially during the day across the Southwest across the Rocky Mountain states and portions of the Great Basin. Cooler air will continue to spread eastward from the Pacific Northwest across Montana and then into North Dakota by early Thursday. Showers and thundershowers will accompany the leading edge of the cooler air as it makes its way eastward across Montana and North Dakota, especially on Monday into early Tuesday.
