Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 455 PM EDT Sun Jul 07 2013 Valid 00Z Mon Jul 08 2013 - 00Z Wed Jul 10 2013 ***Scattered showers and storms for the Eastern U.S.*** ***Monsoonal moisture for the Central and Southern Rockies*** ***Continued hot conditions for the Desert Southwest*** The southerly flow on the western side of the Bermuda High over the Atlantic will result in warm and humid conditions for much of the Eastern U.S. The moist atmosphere, combined with daytime heating, will support the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms. A few organized thunderstorm complexes may develop, which may lead to areas of locally heavy rainfall. Temporary relief from the recent hot weather will come as scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. In the western U.S., hot conditions are expected to continue for the beginning of the work week. Scattered convection will ignite across the Rockies throughout the short term period as some monsoonal moisture surges northward out of Mexico. As the high pressure over the Southwest weakens, high temperatures should not approach record values, however they should be over 100 degrees in the lower elevations of the Desert Southwest.
