Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 315 AM EDT Wed Jul 10 2013 Valid 12Z Wed Jul 10 2013 - 12Z Fri Jul 12 2013 ***Scattered showers and and some heavy thundershowers are expected along and ahead of an advancing cold front from the Midwest to the East Coast*** ***Cooler and drier air are expected to move south and eastward from Canada across portions of the Midwest and Great Lakes region to the Appalachians*** ***Hot temperatures will expand from the Southwest across portions of the Interior West while much cooler air will again move into the Pacific NW*** A large upper ridge will dominate the Southwest and expand northward across the Interior West where temperatures are expected to increase over the next couple days across the Great Basin and Central Rockies. Moisture will continue to stream northward so that afternoon and evening showers and thundershowers will continue to be part of the picture across the Southwest into the Rockies. Cooler temperatures will return across the Pacific NW across the Pacific NW over the next several days. Cooler air now making its way south and eastward across the Northern Plains into the Upper Mississippi Valley will continue to make its way south and eastward across the eastern US over the next couple days. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be found along and ahead of the leading edge of the cooler air and very comfortable summer weather will be the name of the game across the northern Plains and Midwest on Wednesday into Thursday. By late Thursday, the cold front will be located along the East Coast where showers and thunderstorms will be fairly common along and east of the front. By late Thursday into early Friday, comfortable and clearing weather will make its way across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys after several days of soaking showers and storms. The Southeast will continue to see afternoon and evening thundershowers through the short range forecast period. The area from Texas across Oklahoma will remain hot, as will the Desert Southwest.
