Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 437 PM EDT Thu Jul 11 2013 Valid 00Z Fri Jul 12 2013 - 00Z Sun Jul 14 2013 ...A cold front is expected to stall along the East Coast leading to locally heavy rainfall from the Southeast to southern New England... ...Dangerous heat continues across the Southern Plains into the weekend... ...Slow moving cold front will possibly spark severe weather across the Northern Plains... A cold front pushing through the Eastern U.S. is expected to begin stalling along the East Coast tonight and tomorrow. The front will be the focus for periods of heavy rainfall through the next few days. Onshore flow along the eastern seaboard will supply ample moisture along the frontal boundary for heavy precipitation to develop. High temperatures into the 100s combined with dew points in the 70s will create a dangerous situation across portions of the southern plains today and tomorrow. A strong ridge aloft is expected to stay in place into the weekend. This should suppress most convection that would try to develop and lead to mostly sunny skies across the Central U.S. allowing the heat to continue. Some convection is possible along a stalling frontal boundary through northern Texas and the lower Mississippi Valley. A slow moving cold front pushing through central Canada and the Northern Plains will possibly spark some severe thunderstorms over the next two days. As the front pushes into the northern plains the southern extent of the front should begin to stall across Montana and slow the front down overall. A warm and humid airmass ahead of the cold front is expected to be capable of producing surface based convection during the afternoon hours. A strong jet aloft will provide some enhanced lift and shear that could lead to severe weather across the region. Krekeler Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
