Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 412 PM EDT Fri Jul 12 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Jul 13 2013 - 00Z Mon Jul 15 2013 ...Flash flooding expected along the Carolina coast... ...Severe storms possible across the Dakotas and Minnesota... ...Monsoonal flow will continue over the Four Corner States... Widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue to breakout near a frontal boundary stalled across the Mid-Atlantic coast and Southeast this weekend. The most organized areas of convection and heaviest rains should develop from the Florida Panhandle to the coast of the Carolinas within a rich axis of moisture streaming through the region. Much of this area has already seen rain in the recent days making any additional rainfall a threat for flash flooding. Some unsettled weather will also be possible west of the stalled frontal boundary...underneath a closed low meandering westward through the Ohio Valley. As the upper low retrogrades and a ridge builds in its place...a gradual warming trend is expected across the Mid-Atlantic states. A cold front slowly sinking southeastward through the northern tier of the country will trigger showers and thunderstorms across the Dakotas and Minnesota this weekend. Given the abundance of moisture and instability in place across the region...these storms will have to capability to produce heavy downpours and severe weather. Farther south...a frontal boundary stretched through the Southern Plains will serve as a focal point for moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms during the later half of the weekend. Monsoonal flow will continue over the Four Corner States this weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible over the Great Basin and southern/central Rockies...especially during the late afternoon and early evening hours.
