Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 330 AM EDT Tue Jul 23 2013 Valid 12Z Tue Jul 23 2013 - 12Z Thu Jul 25 2013 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms from parts of the Central Plains eastward to the Middle Mississippi Valley and the Western Tennessee Valley... ...Temperatures will be 10 degrees below average for parts of the Upper Great Lakes... A front extending from the Great Lakes to the Central Plains/Middle Mississippi Valley will move eastward off the Northeast Coast/Mid-Atlantic while pushing southward to the Southeast Coast/Tennessee Valley then westward to the Central High Plains by Wednesday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary from the Great Lakes that will move eastward to off the Northeast Coast by Wednesday morning and over parts of the Central/Southern Appalachians/Southeast by Wednesday evening. Upper-level energy over the Northern Plains will move along the western part of the front inducing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Northern/Central Plains moving southeastward to the Tennessee Valley by Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, upper-level energy over the Southeast/Mid-Atlantic will trigger showers and thunderstorms over the area through Tuesday afternoon. In addition, a warm front moving northward over New England will also trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of New England through Tuesday evening. Elsewhere, upper-level energy trapped under a weak upper-level ridge will trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest/Great Basin/Southern Rockies through Wednesday morning. With a little infusion of monsoonal moisture by Wednesday evening, the showers and thunderstorms will cover a greater area over the Southern/Central Rockies and parts of the Southern/Central High Plains.
