Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Sun Jul 28 2013 Valid 12Z Sun Jul 28 2013 - 12Z Tue Jul 30 2013 ***Unseasonably cool over the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes*** ***Scattered showers and thunderstorms for the East Coast*** ***Stormy weather for the Central Plains and parts of the Rockies*** An unseasonably cool airmass is allowing for near record cold temperatures across the Great Lakes and Upper Midwest. Light rain along with clouds and cool temperatures is making it feel more like fall across the region. Clouds and light showers are expected over the next few days as the upper level low slowly exits the region. A slight warming trend is expected into the beginning of the work week. A slow moving cold front pushing through the eastern U.S. will bring showers and thunderstorms to much of the east coast into Monday. The precipitation should be scattered along much of the east coast. More widespread rainfall should remain limited to the Northeast where stronger large scale forcing will be in play due to the proximity of the upper level low. A stationary boundary across the Central Plains will be the focus for widespread showers and thunderstorms into Monday. Strong southerly flow is expected to supply the region with anomalous low level moisture along the front. Shortwave energy moving into the region on Sunday along with the anomalous moisture and low level forcing along the boundary should allow for heavy precipitation to develop and persist into Monday. The long duration and intermittent periods of intense rainfall could lead to flash flooding in some areas. Krekeler Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
