Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 411 PM EDT Fri Aug 02 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 03 2013 - 00Z Mon Aug 05 2013 ...Storms will effect the Plains and Great Lakes... ...Showers and thunderstorms to be expected in the Southeast... ...Rain to persevere in the Southwest and Rockies... A frontal boundary draped across the Upper Midwest and into the Central Plains will spark showers and thunderstorms throughout the short term period. This front, driven by the upper low in eastern Canada, is anticipated to progress south and eastward very quickly. From Friday and into Saturday, most of the heavier precipitation will be moving through the middle and lower Mississippi Valley along with portions of the Ohio Valley. Some of this heavy precipitation could lead to flash flooding especially in the lower Mississippi Valley. As the front advances toward the East Coast by Saturday evening, this convection shifts eastward into the lower Great Lakes and Ohio Valley region. By Sunday morning, a stationary front sets up along the Rockies, providing focus for convection. The heaviest activity will likely occur in the Central Plains and near the Central Rockies as a disturbance moves across the Central Plains on Sunday and interacts with the surface boundary. This front will continue to be draped along the Rockies through Sunday evening and into the medium range period, thus convection should persist at least through Sunday evening. The Southwest will also continue to get thunderstorms set off by diurnal heating through the weekend; however, this activity will be scattered. Farther north, the Northern Plains and Pacific Northwest is expected to receive rain through the weekend. Pieces of energy will trek across this region swiftly from Friday night into Saturday. This should give way to scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the weekend and into the beginning of the work week. Fanning Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
