Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Mon Aug 5 2013 Valid 12Z Mon Aug 5 2013 - 12Z Wed Aug 7 2013 ***Fall-like weather continues from the Great Lakes to East Coast*** ***Stormy weather for the Central Plains and into the Midwest*** ***Scattered showers and storms over the Intermountain West*** Wonderful and pleasantly cool weather by early August standards remains in place over much of the northern U.S., including the Great Lakes region and into the Mid-Atlantic. A surface high pressure ridge from Canada is providing a quality weather pattern with highs in the 70s to low 80s, and lows in the 50s to low 60s, along with even some 40s in the normally colder locations. By the middle of the week, a reinforcing surge of cooler arrive will arrive to the Dakotas and Upper Midwest via another cold front. A nearly stationary frontal boundary over the Central High Plains and into the Central Rockies will provide a focus for widespread showers and storms for the beginning of the work week over much of the Central U.S. Given the abundance of moisture and instability across the area, flash flooding and isolated severe weather remains a possibility where organized thunderstorm complexes develop. Elsewhere, isolated to scattered convection can be expected each afternoon over the Four Corners region with the monsoonal moisture in place. Afternoon sea breeze convection is likely over the Florida Peninsula each afternoon. It will remain hot and humid over the Deep South states and into Texas, which are expected to remain south of the main frontal zone. Heat indices may approach 105 degrees in some of these areas where the combination of high temperatures and high dewpoints is greatest.
