Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 456 PM EDT Tue Aug 13 2013 Valid 00Z Wed Aug 14 2013 - 00Z Fri Aug 16 2013 ...Locations from the Midwest to the Northeast will get an early dose of Fall... ...Showers and thunderstorms will continue along the Gulf Coast states... Conditions will continue to clear across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states Tuesday night as a cold front pushes out into the Atlantic. Behind the front...a much cooler and drier airmass in place over the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes will spread southeastward over the Ohio Valley...Northeast...and Mid-Atlantic regions...making conditions feel more like a refreshing Fall day rather than the dog days of summer. The southern portion of the front clearing the Atlantic coast is expected to stall out and linger over the southern tier of the Nation. Additional days of showers and thunderstorms are expected along the Gulf Coast States...and although heavy downpours will be possible within developing storms...there is not a widespread threat for flash flooding or severe weather. Showers and thunderstorms will also be possible along and just east of the Continental Divide...where the combination of above normal moisture and a lingering frontal boundary banked up against the Rockies should help ignite scattered convection...especially during the afternoon hours. A Pacific front approaching the Western U.S. should bring precipitation back into the Northwestern U.S. on Wednesday. The system will gradually be weakening while it moves towards the coast...keeping showers mostly confined to the Pacific Northwest.
