Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 436 PM EDT Mon Aug 19 2013 Valid 00Z Tue Aug 20 2013 - 00Z Thu Aug 22 2013 ...Unsettled weather continues for the Southeast and up surrounding the Southern to Central Appalachians... ...Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across the Southwest...Central Great Basin...and Southern/Central Rockies... Unsettled weather will continue across the Southeast and up surrounding the Southern to Central Appalachians over the next few days...where a stationary front will remain stretched from the Central Gulf Coast to the Carolina coast. The boundary will gradually be weakening...making showers and thunderstorms more scattered in nature compared to previous days. However...an abundance of moisture in place across the region will allow for some locally moderate to heavy rains. Farther west along the Gulf...low level easterly flow will bring increasing amounts of moisture into Texas...which should fuel some showers and thunderstorms across southern portions of the Lone Star state Tuesday into Wednesday. Across the northern tier of the Nation...a frontal boundary will continue to weaken as it attempts to push into the Upper Midwest Monday night...while a second front moves in behind it. This second front should drop out of Canada on Tuesday...triggering some scattered convection as it crosses the Dakotas and heads into Minnesota. Similar to the first front...this system should not be a big rain maker across the region...but developing storms will have the potential to produce severe weather. Out west...a closed low set up off the California coast will continue to draw monsoonal moisture northward into the Southwest...Central Great Basin...and Southern to Central Rockies. The moisture should fuel widespread showers and thunderstorms across the region...especially during the afternoon hours. Gerhardt Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
