Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 PM EDT Thu Aug 22 2013 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 23 2013 - 00Z Sun Aug 25 2013 ...Showers and thunderstorms possible across the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and much of the Eastern Seaboard/Southeast... ...Scattered showers continuing across the Southwest and Intermountain West... A front stretching across New England and the Ohio Valley will continue to push eastward off the Northeast coast and southward through the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys on Thursday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the boundary in New England this evening and should mostly come to an end by Thursday morning as the front moves offshore. Some more organized and heavier convection could impact parts of Maine, which could lead to a slight risk for some flash flooding overnight tonight. Farther south, showers and thunderstorms ahead of the boundary will move through the Ohio/Tennessee River Valleys and the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday. Most of the activity should remain rather isolated to scattered in nature but some more organized areas could develop just ahead of the front across the Central Appalachians on Thursday morning, and then again along the Mid-Atlantic coastline by the afternoon hours. The western portion of the aforementioned front will advance slowly eastward across the Northern and Central Plains states on Thursday and Friday. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop ahead of the warm front over the Northern Plains on Thursday evening and should progress eastward with time to the Upper Midwest by Friday morning. Additionally, showers and storms will remain commonplace across the Southeast on Thursday as easterly flow off the Atlantic combines with the copious amount of moisture parked in this region. Storms will remain in the forecast for Friday as well, as the boundary approaches from the north and begins to push through the area. Elsewhere, upper level energy moving across Northern California and into the Pacific Northwest will trigger showers and thunderstorms across this area on Thursday and into Friday. In the Southwest, monsoonal moisture and diurnal heating will bring precipitation to parts of the Central/Southern Rockies and the Southwest/Great Basin through the rest of the work week.
