Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 415 PM EDT Thu Aug 29 2013 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 30 2013 - 00Z Sun Sep 01 2013 ...Wet weather expected from Upper Midwest to Northeast... ...Much above normal temperatures for Central Plains... A low pressure system pushing across the Upper Midwest today will bring wet weather to the Great Lakes and Northeast for the weekend. Severe weather is possible today for portions of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the upper peninsula of Michigan. A warm and humid airmass in place will interact with a cold front sweeping through the region, triggering convection this afternoon. An expansive upper level ridge will keep the central and southern plains hot and dry. Temperatures will be as much as 20 degrees above normal in some locations with highs nearing 100 degrees today. A Pacific front approaching the western U.S. will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the northwestern corner of the country on Thursday...with the heaviest precipitation expected along the Washington and northern Oregon coasts. The front is expected to weaken while moving inland on Friday and conditions should dry out over the Northwest in time for the weekend. More days of widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected across the Southwest and into the Central Great Basin and Southern/Central Rockies...where plenty of moisture will be streaming into the region.
