Showers and thunderstorms will continue to breakout ahead of a cold front pressing southeastward through the Northeast...Lower Great Lakes...and Ohio Valley this weekend. These developing storms will have the possibility to become organized and could potentially produce heavy downpours and severe weather. Upstream...a second front will begin pushing southeastward through the north central U.S. Friday night into Saturday. This second front could also ignite strong to severe storms...but by Sunday...the boundary should drop far enough south and east to provide portions of the Midwest some relief from the recent heat and humidity. A lingering frontal boundary will be the focus for showers and thunderstorms across the Southeast and up into the southern Appalachians this Weekend. Convection should be scattered in nature and most active during the late afternoons/early evenings. Anomalous moisture will continue to fuel widespread showers and thunderstorms across the southwestern corner of the country. Although activity should be mostly scattered...locally heavy rains could cause flash flooding across the Southwest and southern California.
