Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 344 AM EDT Sun Sep 1 2013 Valid 12Z Sun Sep 1 2013 - 12Z Tue Sep 3 2013 ***End of the heat wave is in sight for the Central U.S.*** ***More showers and storms for the Desert Southwest*** After several days of hot and humid late summer weather, cooler conditions are on the way for much of the central U.S. starting on Sunday. A cold front surging southeastward will deliver a high quality airmass with refreshing temperatures and lower humidity. Ahead of the front, showers and thunderstorms can be expected from the Great Lakes to the East Coast, and some of these storms may be strong or severe. Another concentrated area of rainfall is likely over southern Canada near the main surface low. Elsewhere across the continental U.S., scattered showers and storms can be expected for the Desert Southwest and into the Inter-Mountain West with lingering monsoonal moisture in place. Localized heavy rainfall will be possible, along with isolated flooding issues. A few showers should approach the Pacific Northwest coast by early in the week with a frontal system offshore. Dry conditions are expected for the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains through the rest of the holiday weekend. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
