Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 441 PM EDT Thu Sep 12 2013 Valid 00Z Fri Sep 13 2013 - 00Z Sun Sep 15 2013 ***Bad weather continues over Colorado and New Mexico*** ***Autumnal weather heading for the East Coast*** ***Showers and thunderstorms linger over New England*** More moderate to heavy rainfall is in the near-term forecast for the Western High Plains and into the Central Rockies. A series of weak impulses lifting out ahead of an upper low centered over the southwestern U.S. is expected to support additional significant rainfall across that region as they interact with a deep moisture plume in place. A few strong or severe thunderstorms are also possible. After several days of unpleasant heat and summer-like humidity, a strong cold front moving in from the northwest will bring a very noticeable difference starting tonight in the Midwest and on Friday for the East Coast. A round of strong thunderstorms is a good possibility ahead of this front Thursday night. A pristine airmass will settle in over the Ohio Valley and Northeast U.S., along with refreshingly cool temperatures and much lower humidity. Overnight lows could easily fall into the 40s away from the cities and highs in the 60s to mid 70s. Elsewhere, some lingering showers and a few thunderstorms are likely over eastern and northern parts of New England through Friday night as the surface low at the northern end of the cold front slowly moves eastward. Periods of heavy rainfall are possible over extreme southern Texas as tropical moisture moves eastward into eastern Mexico. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
