Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 417 PM EDT Fri Sep 13 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 14 2013 - 00Z Mon Sep 16 2013 ***Additional rain and storms for Colorado and New Mexico*** ***Autumnal weather heading for the East Coast*** ***Showers linger over parts of New England*** More moderate to locally heavy rainfall is in the near-term forecast for the Western High Plains and into the Central Rockies, while the worst of the weather appears to be over. A series of weak impulses lifting out ahead of an upper low centered over the southwestern U.S. is expected to support more rain across that region as they interact with a deep moisture plume originating from Mexico. A few strong or severe thunderstorms are also possible. After several days of unpleasant heat and summer-like humidity, a strong cold front moving in from the northwest is delivering a very noticeable difference in temperatures and humidity from the Midwest to the East Coast. A pristine airmass will settle in over the Ohio Valley and Northeast U.S. for this weekend, along with refreshingly cool temperatures and much lower humidity. Overnight lows could easily fall into the 40s away from the cities and highs in the 60s to mid 70s. Elsewhere, some lingering showers and a few thunderstorms are likely over eastern and northern parts of New England through Saturday as the surface low at the northern end of the cold front slowly moves eastward. Periods of heavy rainfall are possible over extreme southern Texas as tropical moisture moves eastward into eastern Mexico. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
