Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 453 PM EDT Fri Sep 20 2013 Valid 00Z Sat Sep 21 2013 - 00Z Mon Sep 23 2013 ...Heavy rainfall will continue over the southern United States... ...Showers and thunderstorms expected to arrive on the East Coast due to cold front... ...Pacific Northwest will receive showers and thunderstorms by multiple systems... Heavy rainfall and flash flooding has affected the southern Plains on Friday, particularly central and southeast Texas, and will continue to do so through Saturday evening. The cold front progresses to the southeast toward the Texas coastline. By Saturday evening, the cold front will be aligned with the coast and stall along the Southeast coast; thus, the threat of heavy rainfall and flash flooding for Texas will end. However, this stalled front will become a focus for showers and thunderstorms especially in Louisiana and Mississippi. Expect moderate to locally heavy rainfall on Saturday and into Sunday along with the thread of flash flooding. This front is expected to stay in place through the end of the short term period. The Northeast and Middle Atlantic will get a round of showers and thunderstorms as the cold front draws near these regions. By Saturday morning, the cold front should be in the Ohio Valley and precipitation will begin to filter towards the East Coast. The cold front arrives Saturday evening and most of the heavier activity will stay north of the Carolinas. by Sunday evening, the cold front will well off the East Coast. Surface high pressure settles over the Great Lakes, Northeast, and Middle Atlantic regions which allows for the seasonable fall weather to continue. Currently, there is an frontal system along the Pacific Northwest coast. This is bringing light to moderate showers from northern California and into Canada. This activity will persist through Friday night and become more scattered on Saturday along the northern West Coast and Northern Rockies. Another system begins to advance towards the Pacific Northwest by Sunday morning and will bring another round of light to moderate showers.
