Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 424 AM EDT Mon Sep 30 2013 Valid 12Z Mon Sep 30 2013 - 12Z Wed Oct 02 2013 ...Conditions across the northwestern corner of the Country will begin improving on Monday... ...Tranquil weather expected across the Southwest...Plains...and...Eastern U.S.... Conditions across the northwestern corner of the Country will begin improving on Monday as the strong cold front that came ashore Sunday night pushes farther inland. The widespread heavy rains and gusty winds with the front will diminish...however...persistent onshore flow will allow for rainfall totals to continue to add up along the windward side of the coastal ranges...Cascades...and Northern Rockies. Additionally...temperatures and snow levels will be dropping behind the front and should eventually lead to accumulating snows in the higher elevations of the Washington Cascades and Northern Rockies. A frontal boundary stretched from the Great Lakes to the Western Gulf Coast will continue to weaken on Monday...but moisture surging north out of the Gulf...combined with weak energy aloft...should keep scattered convection in the forecast along the Central Gulf Coast and up into the Lower Mississippi Valley. From the Southwest into the Plains, weak mid-level ridging and downslope flow should keep precipitation as bay. For the Eastern Seaboard, strong surface ridging and cold air advection around the western side of a stubborn ocean cyclone should keep much of the region rain-free over the next couple days.
