Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 457 PM EDT Tue Oct 08 2013 Valid 00Z Wed Oct 09 2013 - 00Z Fri Oct 11 2013 ...A coastal low tracking up the Eastern Seaboard will bring moderate to heavy rains from the Carolinas to the Delmarva... ...Rain and higher elevation snow expected from the Southwest to the Central Rockies... A strong surface high wedged in over the eastern half of the Nation will keep locations from the Mississippi Valley to the Appalachians pleasantly dry and quiet through the middle of the week. East of the mountains...however...a piece of southern stream energy lifting out of the Southeast will help intensify a surface wave along a frontal boundary lingering off the Carolina coast. The developing coastal low is expected to slowly track up the Eastern Seaboard...and plenty of Atlantic moisture getting wrapped inland ahead of the low should fuel moderate to heavy rains from the Outer Banks to the Delmarva. A vigorous piece of closed energy aloft will trigger scattered shower activity as it dives south through the Western U.S. on Wednesday. A limited moisture supply should keep precipitation totals light and mostly focused along the favored terrain...but as the energy progresses into the Southeast/Central Great Basin Wednesday night into Thursday...some heavier amounts are expected across the Four Corner States. Also...lowering temperatures will make for snow in the higher elevations...with accumulations expected along the Wasatch and San Juan ranges.
