Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 342 PM EDT Thu Oct 10 2013 Valid 00Z Fri Oct 11 2013 - 00Z Sun Oct 13 2013 ***Rainy and breezy for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast*** ***Valley rain and mountain snow for the Inter-Mountain West*** ***Quiet weather from the Deep South to the Great Lakes*** A nor'easter has developed over the near-shore waters of the Mid-Atlantic region, and this is bringing widespread rainfall and gusty winds from eastern North Carolina to southern New England. Gale warnings and small craft advisories are in effect for the coastal waters, and coastal flood advisories and warnings are in effect from the Chesapeake Bay to Long Island. Winds could gust up to 45 mph near the coast, along with at least 1 to 2 inches of rainfall. Away from the steady rainfall, low clouds and widespread drizzle are likely to continue through the end of the week in these areas. Over the Inter-Mountain West, an upper level low is forecast to generate showers and higher elevation snowfall for the Central Rockies. As the energy progresses through the Rockies on Thursday night towards the Central Plains, the precipitation is forecast to become heavier and spread into the Front Range of the Rockies and eventually over the High Plains. Owing to boundary layer temperatures above freezing, most of this precipitation over the Plains should be in the form of rain. Some locations in the western Dakotas may get heavy rainfall over snow-covered ground, thus elevating the risk for flooding issues. Between this system and the nor'easter, relatively pleasant fall weather is forecast to continue through Saturday from the Deep South to the Great Lakes. D.
