Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 AM EDT Fri Oct 11 2013 Valid 12Z Fri Oct 11 2013 - 12Z Sun Oct 13 2013 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorm over parts of the Northern Plains/Upper Mississippi Valley... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Northern Plains... ...Temperatures will be 10 to near 15 degrees above average over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes... A strong storm over the Northern/Central Plains will lift northward into South-Central Canada by Saturday. The Associated cold front over the Central/Southern Plains will move eastward to the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley/Southern Plains by Saturday evening. The system will produce showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain over parts of the Northern Plains on Friday. The showers and thunderstorms will continue along and ahead of the front over parts of the Upper/Middle Mississippi Valley that will expand into the Southern Plains and move eastward into the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley by Saturday evening. In addition, moderate to heavy rain will develop over parts of the Northern/Central High Plains on Friday moving into parts of the Northern Plains on Friday evening/night before lifting into South-Central Canada. Furthermore, light snow will develop over parts of the Central Rockies on Friday. Moisture flowing northward out of the Gulf of Mexico will overrun the Southwestern portion of the boundary over the Southern Plains on Saturday into Saturday evening producing showers and thunderstorms over the region. Meanwhile, low pressure and associated upper-level low over the Mid-Atlantic will aid in producing onshore flow that in turn will produce light rain and drizzle over parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Southern New England through Saturday evening. Additionally, upper-level energy moving onshore over the Pacific Northwest will trigger scattered light rain and some higher elevation snow over parts of the Northwest Coast/Northern Rockies and into parts of the Great Basin on Saturday.
