Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 443 PM EDT Mon Oct 14 2013 Valid 00Z Tue Oct 15 2013 - 00Z Thu Oct 17 2013 ***Heavy rain across parts of the Southern Plains*** ***More rainfall for the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes*** ***Mild weather continues for the East Coast*** The main weather maker during this forecast period is the developing storm system across the Central Plains and moving into the Upper Midwest by Tuesday. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the warm sector of this surface cyclone, and some of the storms across the Central Plains and Texas could become strong to severe. Across the Rockies, valley rain and higher elevation snow will be possible through Tuesday with light accumulations possible in the highest terrain. Widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely from the same storm system as it traverses the Upper Midwest by mid-week. For the East Coast, the seasonably mild temperatures are expected to continue for a few more days, with highs in the 70s expected from the Mid-Atlantic to the Carolinas. The persistent cloudy weather over the past few days has significantly cleared out, allowing for sunny to partly cloudy conditions. The next chance for showers will likely be on Thursday as the next cold front approaches from the west. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
