Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 419 PM EDT Tue Oct 15 2013 Valid 00Z Wed Oct 16 2013 - 00Z Fri Oct 18 2013 ...Showers and thunderstorms across the Southern Plains will enhance flash flooding threat... ...Higher elevation snow expected along the parts of the Rockies... An occluded system, currently draped from the Upper Midwest with a cold front extending into the Southern Plains, will push eastward throughout the short term period. Subtropical moisture is providing ample amount of moisture along the front. This is giving way to showers and thunderstorms with heavier embedded rainfall rates throughout the Southern Plains and the Middle Mississippi Valley. With such heightened activity, the flash flooding threat will continue through Wednesday evening. By Wednesday night, the cold front will push off the coast of Texas. The northern part of the cold front will persevere eastward through the Mississippi Valley and towards the East Coast. Further north, the front will begin to move into New England; showers will begin to filter in the region by Wednesday morning and persist through at least Thursday morning. A cold front coming from northwestern Canada will begin to drop south toward the Northern Plains by Wednesday morning. Precipitation will filter in along and behind the front and will begin in northern Montana and slowly trek into Wyoming.
