Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 315 AM EST Tue Nov 5 2013 Valid 12Z Tue Nov 5 2013 - 12Z Thu Nov 7 2013 ***Moderate to locally heavy rain for the Central U.S.*** ***Swath of accumulating snow from Nebraska to Wisconsin*** ***Warmer weather for the Eastern U.S starting Tuesday*** Moisture from the Gulf will continue to funnel into the Southern Plains and Missouri behind a retreating area of high pressure centered over the Northeast U.S. and ahead of an amplified upper system and its associated cold front moving out of the Rockies. In advance of the cold front, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, some producing locally heavy rains as the front sweeps across Kansas and the Southern Plains, and into Arkansas and Missouri by early Wednesday. Farther to the north the front is expected to become stationary from the upper Great Lakes back into the central High Plains on Tuesday, becoming a focus for the deeper moisture advecting northward from the Gulf of Mexico. Favorable upper level jet dynamics are expected to help lift this moisture, resulting in a band of light to moderate precipitation from southern South Dakota and Nebraska through Iowa, southern Minnesota and into northern Wisconsin. Moderate to locally heavy snow is likely on the back edge of this precipitation from southeastern Wyoming, southwestern South Dakota into central Nebraska. And in the East, with the exception of some light showers from persistent onshore flow along the Southeast coast, high pressure and dry conditions are expected to dominate. After the recent cold weather on Monday, seasonal to above average temperatures along the East Coast are forecast to return as the area of high pressure begins to shift to the east allowing southerly winds to return to the region.
